About Hamlettes

Hamlettes by Patrick Shaw

Middle school Shakespeare enthusiasts Alexandra and Chloe decide to start a theater club, and Hamlet will be their first project. Bossy Alexandra will play Hamlet (obviously), which leaves aspiring actress Chloe with every other character. Not interested in playing Hamlet’s spurned love interest, Chloe enlists an innocent classmate, conveniently named Ophelia, to play her namesake. Deciding to never break character as an “exercise,” the girls’ vague romances and less vague resentments cause their adolescent drama to spiral dangerously out of control. This relatable play is equal parts hilarious satire and heartbreaking drama about the traumas of preadolescent emotional chaos.

Produced by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc.

We will be performing Hamlettes this summer at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival on August 14-17. Traveling to Scotland this August? For tickets from the venue, visit www.centralvenues.org.

We will also be performing Hamlettes in New Jersey in late July or early August. Dates TBA.

Friends of FOTR

As you plan your charitable giving for 2017, we’d like to invite you to sponsor a troupe of extraordinarily talented high school students who act as arts ambassadors, both locally and internationally.

Established in 2014, the Fellowship of the Ravens Inc is a non-profit theatre troupe educating high school students in theatre production and performance. The company members (age 15 to 19) participate in a variety of workshops and performances throughout the year, bringing the benefits of theatre to their own lives and those of their community audiences in Robbinsville, NJ.

In 2014, The American High School Theatre Festival chose Fellowship of the Ravens as one of the top programs nationally, inviting us to perform a show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the world’s largest performing arts festival, that August. We commissioned a new work, Where to Begin, for the occasion and performed in New York City; Robbinsville, NJ; and Edinburgh, Scotland during our first season.

In our second season, we performed a family-friendly musical. Last summer, we launched a performing arts camp in our community, and we’re returning to Scotland to perform in the 2017 Fringe Festival!

Help Us Build Community Through the Arts

We are bombarded daily with negativity on social media and in the news, collectively draining our empathy. The transformative experience of producing plays, teaching and learning about theatre, and enjoying the arts in our communities invites us to empathize. We go to the theatre to exercise compassion, practice listening and understanding, and engage with people who are not just like ourselves. Developing theatre helps us to develop caring in our community.
